Random’s Life part 3: A New Teacher

Whispers begin to swarm throughout the classroom. There were people talking about where our teacher went and who our possible replacement would be. It must be something critical, because the Principal usually only shows up when a major crisis occurs or there’s a major announcement, which he would save for the auditorium.

“Settle down, settle down,” he bellows over the commotion.

His voice echoes throughout the room, silencing the whispers almost instantly.

“Your old teacher, Mr. Stan, will no longer be teaching at our school."

Half the class gasped at this announcement, including Cocoa, who was good friends with Mr. Stan.

“He has retired as of this year. You’ll be getting a new teacher in his place. Her name is Danielle Natsume. Mrs. Natsume, if you would,” he says waving toward the door.

Through the door walks a very beautiful woman, possibly in her late 30s or early 40s. She had long flowing red hair, almost life something out of a fantasy. She sported an average, curvy figure, wore red framed glasses which made her aqua blue eyes stand out on her semi-slim face, and wore two gold dolphin earrings and a sapphire necklace perched around her neck. She also wore a red jacket over a blue t-shirt and a red skirt that went past her knees, but was high enough to show her black high heels. Her appearance was almost instantly inviting to everyone in class, especially the men, but there was something about her that I didn’t find very comforting.

“It’s nice to meet you all. My name is Danielle Natsume,” she said in a very serene voice.

More whispers began to spur through the room. Most of them were directed at her figure, others at how nice or mean of a teacher she’ll turn out to be.

“She will be replacing your old teacher from here on out. I hope you all have a nice day.”

The Principal then leaves the room, leaving us with Mrs. Natsume.

“As you’ve just heard, I will be replacing Mr. Stan. As it’s your first day of class, I won’t be assigning anything, mostly because none of you know what this class is. This will be explained after the announcement today, which will be held in the auditorium after class. It is mandatory for all students to attend.”

She proceeds to sit at her desk and pull out what appears to be a text book.

“As most of you are probably unaware, classes this year are not to be revealed till after we meet in the auditorium.”

She closes the book and folds her hands together while eyeing the class.

“While classes may be kept secret from the students, we teachers are fully aware of them. Most of you will probably end up in my class while most of you will not. That will not happen till tomorrow though, so consider today a free day, as classes will not commence till the day after tomorrow. Use this time to familiarize yourself with your teachers and fellow students if you are new. If you are not, you are free to do as you please.”

With no class, students began to shuffle out of the room.

“Remember to head to the auditorium by 1 pm,” the teacher called out from over her desk.

Cocoa and I were the last two to get ready to leave.

“Random, could I speak to you?” Mrs. Natsume asks me.

I turn toward Cocoa and tell her to meet me by my locker. She then proceeds out of the classroom while I head over to Mrs. Natsume.

“You’re the talk of the town, aren’t you?” she asks. Has she not heard of me? I wonder.

To be polite, I nod and tell her my name. “My name is Random Daldalian.”

“Daldalian, that’s such a nice last name. I could definitely see you in my class.”

“Why’s that?” I ask, my curiosity getting the better of me.

“Because of your technological prowess, Random! Your inventions are one of the top things talked about in this city. Heck, most of the things I saw before coming here piqued my interest.”

Before coming here? Does that mean she just moved here and got this job?

“Before?” I say hesitantly.

“Before moving here, I used to be quite the techno wiz myself. Now I want to pass on that knowledge I’ve gained over the years to the younger teens in the world that have a want to learn them.”

Several minutes of silence pass by before either one of us consider speaking.

“Does that mean you’ve told me what class this is?”

“I simply have told you a little about myself, nothing more,” she says, adding a wink at the end of it.

She then dismisses me. I turn around to wave goodbye as she begins to clear the whiteboard.

“What did she want?” Cocoa asks me once I reach my locker.

“She’s apparently never heard of me,” I tell her putting things away in my locker.

“Did she say anything else?” Cocoa asks, persisting to get an answer.

“No, not really. She didn’t ask for nothing more than who I was.”

Knowing she wouldn’t get a direct answer out of me right now, she lets it slide.

“Come on, let’s get to the auditorium. I don’t want all the good seats taken.”

With our lockers closed and our stuff in hand, we walk toward the auditorium and get prepare ourselves for what announcement awaits us inside.
